The Clan Mother is very important in the role of Ojibway culture. When the Peacemaker came to the warring people, it was a woman, the Deer Clan Mother or Female Grand Chief Jigonhsasee, who first accepted Peacemaker’s vision of peace.  Because of her vision the Peacemaker gave women important duties in the O’Jibway, the Clan Mother. The Red Bear Pembina Chippewa hold this line sacred as it is the matrilineal connection to the woman chosen by the Great Peacemaker to lead.
